In the Bundestag election, the AfD recorded the most voting gains. Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo makes a emerging shift to the right.
Malaika Mihambo has commented on the increasing shift to the right in Germany. In an interview with the “Welt”, the Olympic champion of Tokyo said, if you look at “public debates, read something in comments or social media, then it becomes clear that certain statements that were previously unthinkable are openly expressed today and even arrived in public discourse.”
Racism, emphasized Mihambo, did not “fall under freedom of expression”, but contradict human rights, “because freedom of expression ends where the equality and dignity is violated.” In her opinion, this shows “how little National Socialism has been processed and its horrors have simply been forgotten or never properly internalized.”
With a view to the AfD, Mihambo said that “there should be no anti -democratic parties in a democracy”. “If this is the case, it has to be traded,” the 31-year-old continues. Under certain conditions, she therefore considers a ban from the party to be conceivable.
“A democracy needs clear rules and limits that should not be exceeded,” said Mihambo. If a party, movement or an individual repeatedly violated the values of the constitution and a clear conflict with the Basic Law is recognizable, the responsible institutions would have to carry out a thorough examination and, if necessary, take consequences. “It is important that our democratic principles are protected,” said Mihambo.
