Mainz 05 also rejects the second offer for Dahmen from FC Augsburg

Exchange veto from the FSV

FSV Mainz 05 has apparently also rejected a second offer from FC Augsburg for goalkeeper Finn Dahmen. This reports the “Picture” on Monday. The Fuggerstadt team underlined their interest in the 24-year-old, who is only number two behind Robin Zentner in Mainz. Dahmen still has a contract with the “Zero Fives” until the summer of 2023, and the club would like to keep him despite his reserve role.

According to the newspaper, Mainz does not want to give up the keeper because a change would require a successor and a fee would be due for him. The Pole Rafal Gikiewicz has been number one for the Augsburgers since moving from Union Berlin in the summer of 2020, but was recently no longer considered undisputed. In the 2-1 away win in Leverkusen on Matchday 2, the veteran defied the rumors of a possible replacement and was one of the guarantors for the surprising success, thus collecting plus points.

Most recently, Mainz’s sports director Christian Heidel said about Dahmen’s personnel: “We can’t get a replacement for him anymore.” That’s why the goalkeeper, who emphasized in the Transfermarkt interview in spring that he was aiming for a change for the purpose of match practice, should remain in the squad. Heidel had actually promised him a transfer, possibly in the form of a loan. “If Finn and his advisor approach us, we will find a solution. (…) It is clear to everyone that, given Dahmen’s quality, it would be anything but logical if he had to sit on the bench for another year. He just has to play now,” he told Kicker in March.
