Premier League: ManUnited fans protest ahead of Liverpool game

As of: 08/22/2022 9:09 p.m

A larger group of Manchester United football fans protested ahead of the explosive home game against Liverpool in the English Premier League on Monday evening.

Their displeasure, expressed in chants and on banners, was again directed at their own club owners from the USA. A large number of police officers were deployed around Old Trafford stadium. Both teams reached the stadium before the protests started.

Man United fans had already protested against their own club owners in May 2021 before the duel with Liverpool. They had entered Old Trafford and, among other things, set off plenty of pyrotechnics. The top game then had to be postponed as the first in Premier League history due to fan protests. The conflict between fans and the Glazer family that owns United has been brewing for many years.

Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp had demanded in the run-up to the game on Monday that his team would have to get the three points if the game was postponed again. “I really hope it won’t happen. But if it does, we should get the points,” said Klopp.
