Schach-geni Magnus Carlsen is considered a idiosyncratic character. Because of his clothes, for example, he was disqualified in 2024. Now followed an auction.

Chess player Magnus Carlsen has completed a special auction: his jeans, which caused a sensation at the 2024 high chess World Cup, was auctioned for $ 36,100. The proceeds go to a charity.

Carlsen had contested the tournament in New York in Jeans in December 2024 – contrary to the organizers’ guidelines. They initially punished the violation with a fine of $ 200 and asked the Norwegians to change his clothes. But Carlsen remained stubborn and was finally disqualified. After talking to the Chess World Association FIDE, he returned to the Blitzschach World Cup, which also took place in New York.

In mid-February, the 34-year-old provided the jeans on Ebay for auction-with a pinch of self-irony. “The forbidden jeans – can belong to you. I auctioned my jeans. A sentence that I never thought would write him. But now it is so far,” wrote Carlsen on the platform X. The offer not only contained pictures of the pants itself, but also photos that showed him during the World Cup in said jeans.

The sale had a good cause: Carlsen announced that the entire proceeds will flow to the “Big Brothers Big Sisters” program. The organization supports children and young people and is dependent on donations. Now, thanks to the chess professional jeans, she received a generous sum.
