Macron attends the Tour de France despite riots

Despite the ongoing serious riots in the country, French President Emmanuel Macron will attend the Tour de France on Thursday.

As announced by the Presidential Office, the head of state is traveling to the sixth stage of the major cycling event, which leads from Tarbes to Cauterets-Cambasque in the Pyrenees.

On his obligatory Tour visit, Macron will meet with local officials and cover part of the stage in the support car with race boss Christian Prudhomme.

According to information from Macron’s office, the President will thank the helpers who make it possible to hold the Tour de France, even under the delicate circumstances this time.

Major French cities have been shaken by riots since the death of a youth who was shot dead by a police officer during a check in Nanterre last week.
