One girl dead and four injured. This is the first tragic outcome of an accident that occurred in the province of Varese on Sunday 7 June in the mid-afternoon. The incident occurred on the Verbano state road 394 near Maccagno. The road runs alongside Lake Maggiore before passing through the town of Maccagno con Pino and Veddasca.

According to a summary reconstruction, it was around 3.30pm when a Fiat Panda coming from the north and heading towards Maccagno hit a group of pedestrians aged between 15 and 30. The victim, probably 17 years old, would have died instantly while four other people were injured: among them the driver whose life is not in danger. Multiple rescue helicopters as well as several ambulances responded to the scene. Three people were transported to hospital under code red.
