End of an era: Modrić leaves real after 13 years

Luka Modrić will leave Real Madrid after the club world championship in summer. The midfielder announced his farewell himself.
Real Madrid is about to end an era. Modrić, an integral part of the top Spanish club since 2012, will leave the club in summer. As the 39-year-old and Real announced on Thursday, he will be officially adopted on Saturday at the last league game against Real Sociedad in the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. For the club World Cup, which begins in the United States on June 18, Modrić is still in the contingent.
On Instagram, the Croatian wrote: “Everything in life has a start and an end.” He leaves the club with a “full heart” – filled with “pride, gratitude and indelible memories”. Even if he would no longer wear the jersey after the club World Cup on the pitch, he was “always a Madridista”.
Modrić changed from Tottenham Hotspur to Madrid in 2012. Since then he has played 590 competitive games for the royal and won a total of 28 titles – including six times the Champions League. The playmaker is with 186 missions of Croatian record national players. In 2018 he became world footballer, in the same year he reached the World Cup final in Russia with Croatia.
Real President Florentino Pérez said: “Luka Modrić will remain in the hearts of all real Madrid fans as a unique and exemplary footballer who has always represented Real Madrid’s values.” His game was thrilled by fans worldwide. Modrić’s legacy will continue.
It is still open whether and where the Croat continues his career. His contract expires in summer.
