A bitter pill for Frits Sissing and for musical bobo Albert Verlinde: the grand finale of Op Search Naar also attracted little attention yesterday. “I don’t think this program title will come back.”
The grand finale of Op Search Naar, the program in which leading players were sought for Albert Verlinde’s new Grease musical, attracted little attention last night on NPO 1. The program presented by Frits Sissing closed with a meager 687 thousand viewers for that channel ( 14 percent market share).
Bales for Frits
As the largest channel in the Netherlands, these kinds of figures do not make you happy, and certainly not for the Friday evening entertainment. “Big disappointment for Frits Sissing. His Opzoek Naar experienced the final yesterday and he does not score MORE, but even LESS than the semi-final”, says viewing figures professor Tina Nijkamp.
Tina expects that this show really won’t come back now. “So this was also the last episode of this program title, I think. The curtain seems to be falling, because not only did the entire series score poorly, but below 700 thousand viewers for a final (without major competition) is not enough.”
Chance nil
In addition, it remains doubtful that the NPO is simply praising an Albert Verlinde musical here week in, week out, says Tina. “The touch of commercialism that surrounds it, [naast de lage kijkcijfers]there is zero chance that we will see Op Search Naar again on the NPO and on Dutch TV.”
Incidentally, the TV viewer saw hardly any reason to turn on the TV last night anyway. “Now that the series The Water Comes has ended, not a single prime-time program has scored above one million. And that is unprecedented and worrying for a Friday in the winter. The viewer simply does not seem to want to look.”
VI in top five
The winner on prime time was Today Inside with 874 thousand viewers (20 percent) on SBS 6, followed by Chantals Pyjama Party with 809 thousand viewers (16 percent) on RTL 4. Only in third place is Op Search Naar.
The other most watched titles in prime time were RTL 4’s Jinek (649 thousand and 15 percent) and NPO 2’s Nieuwsuur (503 thousand and 10 percent). Prior to VI, the SBS 6 show Ministars attracted only 424 thousand viewers (8 percent).
