Longing FC Volendam wants to achieve results: “I don’t care how”

Although the final result suggests otherwise, FC Volendam performed well against leader PSV (1-5). The New Orange seemed to be on its way to bonus points for a while, thanks to a quick lead. “Time is running out to get points,” said Damon Mirani, who wore the captain’s armband.

Together with Vitesse, FC Volendam is currently at the bottom of the Premier League. Both teams have played a meager 12 points together. The two teams will face each other in the Premier League next weekend. In the match against PSV, that match was not in my mind. Not even with a large deficit. “After that, you’ll see what happens.”

Against PSV, Volendam took the lead after 1 minute and 1 second against the leader. “Yippee”, thought coach Regillio Simons on the bench. After a good first half, the Volendam defense still succumbed to the persistent pressure. “I am satisfied with where we are now in the process,” says Simons, despite the five goals conceded. “The naivety is gone.”

Against PSV, Volendam could even have scored a second goal before half time through Zach Booth. Still, both teams went into halftime with a 1-1 score. After the break, according to Mirani, the difference was made by the Eindhoven team. “These are details. We have to improve on them very quickly,” says Mirani, who also realizes that the opponent is of a different caliber. “You also know that PSV has a lot of quality, because they have reached the Champions League.”
