– GENOA

Test of strength. Atalanta doesn’t stop anymore: twenty-two points in the last nine matches, fourth place secured, four more than Roma. He won at Ferraris (1-4 at the end), only in the end did he overwhelm a Genoa team that had been unbeaten for eight rounds and still had the merit of staying in the game until almost the end. Capable of reacting to the magic of De Ketelaere in the first with the goal of the former Malinovskyi, before suffering an encore from a free kick from Pasalic and saving himself in the 43rd minute of the second half with Carnesecchi’s decisive clearance on Gudmundsson. Then at the end of the big stoppage time, the former Zappacosta scored the third goal and Touré made it 1-4.

Cynicism Gasp

The Nerazzurri rely on Koopmeiners as an attacking midfielder behind De Ketelaere and Scamacca. Gilardino chooses Sabelli on the right, places Frendrup on the opposite lane to stop Holm, with the former Malinovskyi and Strootman supporting a midfield led by Badelj. Behind, Vogliacco replaces the suspended De Winter. For eighteen minutes the confrontation, very tactical, remained practically equal, because the rossoblù’s play was clean, the maneuver effective, with Gasperini’s wingers blocked by doubles on the wingers, with Malinovskyi supporting Sabelli in the non-possession phase and Strootman in support of the Dane from Genoa. Atalanta is attentive, essential, avoids risks and waits for the rossoblù’s first mistake to strike. Vogliacco draws applause for a complicated recovery on CDK, Djimsiti lets a dangerous ball escape (17′), but Gudmundsson doesn’t take advantage. The Icelandic player from Genoa is unable to impose himself because Atalanta doubles down on him.

CDK Magic

But in the 24th minute, the usual De Ketelaere unblocked it: Pasalic’s throw, Vogliacco lost the Belgian, who stopped it with his right and volleyed with his left foot with precision behind Martinez. A champion’s magic, even if after the goal he allows himself a gesture that is not exactly world-class. Hands on ears under the Genoa steps to mock the opponents and moments of tension on and off the pitch. But nothing can be granted to this Atalanta. Strootman knows something about it, leaving the field open as usual, the elusive Belgian: Vasquez makes up for it, and it is the same Mexican (32′) who heads Carnesecchi, then also careful about Retegui’s right-footed shot almost at the end of the first half.

The law of the former

This was enough to give Gasperini the lead in the first half. In the second half the rossoblù tried to increase the engine speed, and within six minutes they equalised. Siege on Carnesecchi’s goal, double chance from Retegui (the Atalanta goalkeeper was decisive), then on a combination from the left with Badelj, the former Malinovskyi punishes his former team with his left foot. One by one in the 6th minute, with the Ukrainian apologizing to the Nerazzurri forward after the goal. But the advantage does not last long, four minutes later, Bani provokes a free kick from the edge, Koopmeiners puts it in the top corner to the left of Martinez: 1-2. Gasp changes: Touré, Miranchuk and Zappacosta inside, CDK, Scamacca and Holm outside. Pasalic doesn’t take advantage of Martinez’s short clearance, who makes up for it. Gilardino strengthens the attack, brings in Ekuban (Badelj out) and inserts Martin on the left (Strootman out), but there is less clarity on the pitch and the rossoblù maneuver is also affected. Atalanta takes control, Gasperini gets furious with Touré for a couple of badly lost balls, but the guests remain in control of the match.

Endless checking

In the 32nd minute, the guests’ third goal: Martinez says no to Ruggeri and Pasalic, but can do nothing on Scalvini’s third shot, which the rossoblù number one blocks over the line. But there is a VAR check for a possible Atalanta offside, which lasts over five minutes: goal disallowed. Let’s start once again. But in the thirteen minutes of injury time, Atalanta spread against an unbalanced opponent.
