Not everyone wants to be so busy. For one of the visitors it is already the third time he has experienced Sail. He says: “It is especially for the cosiness and the atmosphere. We look at people, and they look at us. The tugboat people all know each other, so it’s just a cozy coming together.”

Long lines

With the 205 meter long naval ship Zr. Ms. Karel Doorman, the showpiece of the fleet, is a long line of visitors. Some have been waiting for more than half an hour, but nobody complains. “The waiting is not too bad. Fifteen minutes? Half an hour. Biggest ship so far, you have to go on that,” a woman says patiently.

The crowds on the quays shows that Sail, also fifty years after the first edition, is still one of the most popular events in the city.
