Mike Patton attempted to bring down a drone during his band Mr. Bungle’s performance at Knotfest in Chile on Sunday (December 11). The object was probably controlled by a fan from the audience.

As you can see in the video below, the musicians were about to cover Slayer’s “Hell Awaits” when the drone flew right into the singer’s field of view. He then gave the device the middle finger and gestured to its unknown helmsman to let it fly closer to him. As the drone got closer, he tried (unsuccessfully) to throw it out of the air with his microphone. Patton then made another provocative hand gesture, but then transitioned into the next cover of Seals and Crofts’ Summer Breeze.
It’s not just Mike Patton who is upset by the drone issue
Last month, Axl Rose addressed fans on social media with a similar topic. During a concert in Australia, the Guns N’ Roses singer had observed the increase in flying objects. “The people [im Publikum] were angry,” he explained. “No matter how much fun you’re having, you still try to focus, do your job and give the fans the best shows you can. (…) We understand that it can be ‘fun’ to get his drone bootleg video, but we would appreciate it if anyone planning to be a drone pirate showed consideration for the fans and take the band and play somewhere else with their toys.”
On that at least, Rose and Patton seem to agree – it wasn’t always like this. Patton had previously admitted years ago to urinating on Rose’s telepromoter and making big bucks in his OJ because he was allegedly unhappy with the way Guns N’ Roses treated his band Faith No More when the two groups started the toured together in the 90s.
Patton not only fronts Faith No More and Mr. Bungle, but also Death Cross. All three acts have yet to make any tour announcements for 2023. The 54-year-old only canceled the autumn shows with Faith No More at the end of 2021 due to his mental illness.
