Live ticker VfL Bochum – SC Freiburg (Bundesliga 2023/2024, 25th matchday)

VfL Bochum lost all of its last five competitive games against SC Freiburg (4 times in the Bundesliga, once in the DFB Cup) – VfL currently has such a long series of defeats against no other current BL team. Freiburg does not have such a long winning streak against any other current BL team.

VfL Bochum recently lost two Bundesliga games in a row for the first time since September – there were only more consecutive BL defeats under Thomas Letsch from February to March 2023 (4). For the first time since March 2010, VfL conceded at least four goals in two BL games in a row – Bochum’s 16 goals conceded in the second half of the season is only bettered by their upcoming opponents SC Freiburg (18).

SC Freiburg recently remained winless in six Bundesliga games in a row for the first time since autumn 2020 (9 games at that time). The SCF recently lost four BL games in a row away from home – the last time that happened for the SC was in spring 2021 (also 4), more than that in a BL season under Christian Streich.

With five points and a goal difference of -7 after seven match days, SC Freiburg is the second weakest team in the second half of this Bundesliga season (1W 2D 4L) after SV Darmstadt (3 points). It is Freiburg’s weakest second half record at this point in 10 years (also 5 points in 2013/14).

VfL Bochum has scored in each of its last 18 Bundesliga home games since a 0-2 loss against FC Schalke in March 2023 – the longest current home scoring streak in the league. VfL only managed a longer streak of home goals once in the Bundesliga – from 1975 to 1977, VfL scored in 22 home games in a row.

SC Freiburg conceded at least two goals in each of the last seven Bundesliga games – eight BL games in a row with at least two goals conceded would be Freiburg’s BL negative record and previously only existed in 1996 under Volker Finke (albeit across all seasons).

VfL Bochum has already lost 13 points in Bundesliga home games this season after leading itself – more than any other team. However, SC Freiburg was one of two teams unable to get any points after falling behind (like VfB Stuttgart).

This Bundesliga season, VfL Bochum only allows their opponents 11.3 passes outside their own defensive third before a defensive action is taken – this is the second lowest PPDA value in the league (after Bayern with 11.2). SC Freiburg, on the other hand, has the highest PPDA value in the league at 17.0.

The VfL Bochum players have already seen a total of 74 yellow cards this Bundesliga season – that’s a league high. Only Mainz 05 have committed more fouls per game (14.1) than VfL (13.5). On the other hand, no team saw fewer yellow cards than SC Freiburg (37, like Stuttgart).

Freiburg’s Lucas Höler scored his seventh goal of this Bundesliga season in the 2-2 draw against FC Bayern and is now just one goal away from his personal best in 2019/20 (8 goals in 34 appearances). With seven goals, he is Freiburg’s joint top scorer this season (together with Grifo).
