21:49

Jenz heads the ball from the right after a Zalazar corner. But the play equipment slides over the housing.

60

21:48

An hour is up. The game is about to be scored. Let’s see which team gets to celebrate first.

57

21:45

This is of course bitter for the West Germans, who continue to make a slightly better impression here. On the other hand, the team from Lower Saxony also had two good finishes in the second round. It can go on like this.

54

21:43

Almost the 0:1! A wind deflection from the headquarters lands on the left in the sixteen at the free-standing Kamiński. But the ferryman makes himself big and parries with his chest.

Alex Kral

VAR decision: The goal by A. Král (FC Schalke 04) is disallowed, score 0-0

Just the unlucky one, now the goalscorer! Zalazar circles a wide free kick to the far post from the right wing. Král pulls through more consistently than any Wolfsburg player and maneuvers the ball from seven meters from the left into the short corner. Question: Was he offside? The scene is checked. After several minutes of consultation, VAR Schröder decides offside in cooperation with Brand. Very, very bitter for the miners.

48

21:37

Rodrigo Zalazar

Yellow card for Rodrigo Zalazar (FC Schalke 04)

…as well as Zalazar are on the mat right after the scene at Brand. Both get yellow for complaining.

48

21:37

Yannick Gerhardt

Yellow card for Yannick Gerhardt (VfL Wolfsburg)

Both Gerhardt…

48

21:36

Hustle and bustle in the Wolfsburg penalty area! Zalazar goes down against Baku as a result of a Frey cross from the right. The fans protest, but S04 continues. Bülter’s shot from the left flies in the direction of the six-yard box, where Král aims his head over it.

46

21:35

Good opportunity for Wolfsburg! Wind addresses a high diagonal ball from the left. From a half-left position and 13 meters he chases the ball past the left.

46

21:34

It continues with a change in the home side. Bülter replaces Skarke.

21:33

Kick-off 2nd half

45

21:21

Mid-term conclusion:
Break in Gelsenkirchen, Schalke and Wolfsburg are still goalless. The story of the first half is well told: There was only one real highlight, namely the penalty for the green-whites. This was preceded by a foul by Jenz on Wimmer. But Arnold missed the big opportunity by chasing the penalty kick against the left post. Otherwise, the royal blues have visual advantages, but just as little as their opponents come into dangerous final situations. The Autostadters are likely to be even more dissatisfied with the first half than the hosts, as they hardly manage anything offensively. After all, it remains exciting in terms of results – see you soon!

45

21:16

Official injury time (minutes): 2

44

21:15

Krauss sends Frey deep from midfield. Because the 28-year-old has no teammates and instead has two opponents around him, he slams the round from 20 meters from half-right far to the right.

43

21:14

There’s not much to suggest that we’ll be able to celebrate another goal in the first half. The defenses of both teams are too safe.

40

21:11

That annoys Krauss. Jenz sends him to the left wing, then ex-Nuremberg shakes off van de Wen. However, referee Brand decides that the ball is out of bounds – and thus a throw-in from Wolfsburg. Otherwise things could have gotten dicey.

39

21:10

Kamiński crosses inwards from the left halffield with a cut to the goal. But because wind is well covered, the thing ends up in the arms of the ferryman.

37

21:08

Casteels has plenty of time off a tee but can’t find a nearby pass station. When he is run over by Kozuki, he pops the pill out. This is certainly how Reis wants to see it from his protégés.

34

21:04

Ferryman gets down Arnold’s cross in the follow-up.

33

21:04

The wolves now also come to a first corner from the left. But Schalke get a grip on them first. In the follow-up, Baku pulls out another dead ball – this time from the right.

30

21:01

Dangerous! At the far post, Král sneaks towards the ball from a Zalazar corner. The ball is a little too high, however, so the Czech’s header whizzes uncontrollably past the right angle.

29

20:59

Patrick Wimmer

Yellow card for Patrick Wimmer (VfL Wolfsburg)

Wimmer stops the Uronen who is taking off on the left. That’s why he sees yellow.

27

20:57

Smart attack by the hosts: With a long diagonal ball, Skarke looks for Frey from the left half-space on the right side of the box. Otávio is just about right and heads the marble out in front of the lurking striker. The corner brings nothing.

24

20:55

There is still a lack of clear chances on both sides. The only action worth mentioning was the Arnold penalty. Otherwise, both defensive rows are relatively compact.

21

20:53

Skarke gets kicked in duel with Svanberg. For the newcomer from Union Berlin, however, things continue. A few moments ago there was also a duel between Bornauw and Frey in the sixteen of the wolves. The defender had his arm out against Frey and also brought him down. But rightly so, that’s not enough for a 911.

19

20:50

…Zalazar’s cross slips past the far post to Krauss, whose attempt at a corner is blocked. Zalazar executes again, this time high and deep into the back corridor. There Kral sends the ball to the five, where Jenz fails from a short distance at the outstanding Casteels. However, Jenz was also offside.

17

20:48

There is the next standard situation. Král gets a kick on the shin from Gerhardt 27 meters half-right in front of the box…

15

20:46

Zalazar is ready for a free kick on the right wing. The cross is not so bad, but in the end it is clarified after half-right in front of the sixteen of the guests. Kozuki then tries it directly from 18 meters, but only shoots into Casteels’ arms.

12.

20:43

This means that pepper is already in the game at this early stage. Both teams report offensive claims. The Wolfsburg are now more aggressive.

9.

20:40

Maximilian Arnold

Penalty missed by Maximilian Arnold, VfL Wolfsburg

No goal! Arnold steps up and aims at the bottom left corner. He loaded the ferryman, but the Wolves captain only hit the post. Great luck for the miners!

8th.

20:39

…and there are Penalty for Wolfsburg! Brand correctly points to the point. That wasn’t very clever of Jenz.

7.

20:38

Jenz probably hits Wimmer inside the penalty area on the left ankle. While it’s going on for the time being, the repetition shows: That smells like a penalty. Referee Brand is sent to the review area…

5.

20:36

In the first few minutes, Schalke are the more active team. VfL is looking at the whole thing first.

2.

20:33

The first conclusion applies to S04: Frey puts a ricochet in Kozuki’s run with his head. The 22-year-old’s shot from 20 meters to the left is not an issue for Casteels.

20:12

Angry tongues could claim that the Wolves are exactly the right opponent for this, after all the last three matches against SV Werder Bremen (1: 2), in the cup at 1. FC Union Berlin (1: 2) and at the weekend against FC Bayern Munich (2:4) all lost. The big but: With the exception of the first half against Bremen, Lower Saxony were even in all games – coach Kovač even thought that his team should have won against Bayern. It should not be forgotten that they remained unbeaten in eleven competitive games before the bankruptcy against Werder. All of that is currently enough for seventh place in the table – with a threesome they would at least temporarily get within two points of sixth-placed Freiburg.

19:59

It can probably be described as a small upward trend, what the Royal Blues brought to the floor in the last two games. Both at home against 1. FC Köln (0-0) and most recently at Borussia Mönchengladbach (0-0) they scored points that not all experts believed they were capable of. Nevertheless, two big problems remain: First, the gap to relegation place 16 is five, and to place 15 even eight points. In addition, no other team scores as few goals as Gelsenkirchen (14). A draw would probably not be enough today.

19:43

VfL also made two changes. Gerhardt and Kamiński replace Lacroix and Felix Nmecha.

19:40

Let’s first look at the line-ups of both teams. Looking back on last Saturday, the miners swapped two positions. Zalazar and Frey start instead of Balanta and Terodde.

19:30

Hello and welcome to the 20th match day of the Bundesliga! In the duel between fear of relegation and European ambitions, FC Schalke 04 has to deal with VfL Wolfsburg today. Kick-off is at 8:30 p.m.
