FC Köln has only lost two of the last eight Bundesliga home games against Borussia Dortmund (W3 D3) and has recently remained undefeated three times in a row (W1 D2) – BVB is currently only away longer against FC Bayern among the current BL teams without a win (9 games) than with the Domstadt team (3).

With 11 points, 1. FC Köln had their second weakest first half of the season in the Bundesliga; Effzeh only had fewer points in 2017/18 (6, relegated last at the end of the season). Cologne have only won one of their last nine BL games (1-0 in Darmstadt, D4 L4).

Borussia Dortmund recently ended a dry spell of four winless Bundesliga away games with a 3-0 win in Darmstadt and remained without conceding a goal away from home for the first time this BL season. FC Cologne lost points after being in the lead for the fifth time this Bundesliga season (12 points were lost) – only Gladbach more often (7 times, Wolfsburg and Bochum also 5 times). Borussia Dortmund have already scored six times after falling behind and thus gained 12 points, which is a shared league record (with Augsburg).

Borussia Dortmund has scored eight goals from substitutes this Bundesliga season (most recently 2 in Darmstadt), no team has scored more (RB Leipzig also 8). Only FC Bayern (14) has more goal contributions from jokers than BVB (13 – 8D 5V). 1. FC Köln, on the other hand, conceded the most goals from substitutes (10) and, like only Wolfsburg and Darmstadt, are still without their own joker goal.

Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt scored his sixth goal of this Bundesliga season in the 3-0 win in Darmstadt – a record for BVB, never before has he scored so many goals in a BL first half of the season. He scored four of these goals in this BL season to make it 1-0, which is only bettered by Bayern’s Harry Kane (5).

Davie Selke scored 1. FC Köln’s last three Bundesliga goals and, with his total of five goals, scored 45% of Cologne’s 11 goals this season – no player scored more of his team’s goals this BL season (Stuttgart’s Guirassy also 45%). However, Selke will be missing from the Billy Goats in the coming weeks due to injury.

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho have scored 14 goals against each other in the Bundesliga (9 times Sancho for Reus, 5 times Reus for Sancho), since Data collection in 2004/05, no duo for BVB in the BL scored more goals against each other (Kagawa & Aubameyang, Reus & Aubameyang also 14 each).

According to the expected goals on target model, Cologne keeper Marvin Schwäbe prevented 6.0 goals from being conceded this Bundesliga season (29 GT excluding own goals with 35.0 xGoT) – a league best. Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel is in third place in this statistic (4.6 GT prevented, 23 GT from 27.6 xGoT – Lukas Hradecky 5.3).

Cologne coach Timo Schultz won his only competitive game against Borussia Dortmund as coach of second division club St. Pauli in the 2021/22 DFB Cup round of 16 with 2-1 (H). Since the beginning of the 2011/12 season, he has been the only coach to knock BVB out of the cup with a lower-class club. The first two competitive games at national level against BVB were last won by Hansi Flick (5 from 2019 to 2021).
