From Friday (January 6th) Peter Gabriel’s new single “Panopticom” will be available in the stream. The song is a harbinger of the forthcoming album “i/o”. The band features Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché, electronic arrangement by Brian Eno, backing vocals by Ríoghnach Connolly. The accompanying single cover artwork was provided by David Spriggs.

Gabriel: “The first song is based on an idea I am working on to initiate the construction of an endlessly expandable, publicly accessible data globe: the Panopticom. We’re in the process of bringing together a group of like-minded people who could bring this idea to life and allow the world to see itself better and understand more of what’s going on.”

The lyrics, Gabriel writes, were inspired by the work of three groups: Forensic Architecture, Bellingcat and the human rights organization WITNESS, which Gabriel co-founded.

It is not yet known when the “i/o” album will be released – but the release of individual new songs is. The phases of the moon should determine the release plan for 2023 – each with a new song for the full moon.
