Linkin Park have released a new song that is actually two decades old: On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of their second album “Meteora”, released in 2003, the former nu metal band from Los Angeles dug through their archives and with “Lost ‘ discovered a song that didn’t make it onto the record at the time and has so far remained unreleased. Now, after an announcement, Mike Shinoda and Co. not only let the track be heard, but also provided it with a video that shows the band members in anime versions.
The special thing about the song is of course not only that it can only be heard now, but that Chester Bennington can also be heard on it because of his age. The band’s lead singer died on July 20, 2017, committing suicide. Although his band hasn’t officially disbanded since then, they have repeatedly stated that there are no plans to continue actively, perhaps even with a new singer. She is still present within this framework, for example she recently opened her own TikTok account.
The anniversary edition of “Meteora” is scheduled for April 7, 2023 appear in different editions. On the occasion, Mike Shinoda shares: “Discovering this track was like finding an old photograph that you completely forgot you had taken and just waiting for the right moment to take it again to show up. For years, fans have been asking us to release something with Chester’s voice. I am very pleased that we can now fulfill this wish in such a special way. They will be blown away when they hear and see all the unreleased songs and video footage from ‘Meteora/20’ I’m sure.”
In 2020 – for the 20th birthday of the debut album “Hybrid Theory” – the group re-released it and also packed previously unreleased tracks into the large box set.
