A year ago, Lindsey Vonn celebrated her comeback in St. Moritz after a long break. She is now celebrating another milestone in the same Swiss ski resort.

Sensation in Switzerland: Lindsey Vonn won the downhill race in St. Moritz at the age of 41 and can now celebrate her 82nd World Cup victory. Her victory comes seven years, eight months and 28 days after her last World Cup success in March 2018 in Are, Sweden. Vonn retired from ski racing in February 2019 and celebrated her comeback in St. Moritz a year ago.

Vonn showed her outstanding form in the first downhill run of the Olympic winter. With a lead of 0.98 seconds, she secured victory over the Austrian surprise runner-up Magdalena Egger. Mirjam Puchner, also from Austria, who came second at the World Championships, came in third place, 1.16 seconds behind.

Vonn, who became an Olympic champion in 2010, had knee surgery in April 2024, during which she was fitted with a partial prosthesis. Despite this health challenge, she dominated the competition in St. Moritz. Emma Aicher and Kira Weidle-Winkelmann also showed strong performances and took fifth and eighth place.
