Tears of joy at Lindsey Vonn: The ski star won a podium in the World Cup in the Super-G-and thus broken a record.

Lindsey Vonn celebrated extraordinary success in her much -noticed comeback. The 40-year-old American ranked second at the season finale in Sun Valley in the Super-G and celebrated her first podium since March 2018. At that time, she also took third place in Super-G in the Swedish area.

At the finish, the emotions overwhelmed – they sank into the snow and forgives tears of joy. With her second place (+1.29 seconds), Vonn also set a new age record in the Alpine World Cup. She is now the oldest driver who has ever been on the podium. The Austrian Alexandra Meissnitzer held the previous record, who became third in 2007/08 in Bormio at the age of 34, eight months and 25 days.

“It was a hard season in which people said I couldn’t be too old, I wasn’t good enough,” said Vonn at NBS Sports and added: “I think I showed it to everyone.” The second place in Sun Valley was her 137th podium placement in the World Cup.

Meanwhile, Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland secured the victory in the Super-G. The overall World Cup winner Federica Brignone from Italy took third place with 1.33 seconds. Brignone had previously won the large crystal ball and the World Cup.

The German starter Emma Aicher (+2.01 seconds) made it into the top ten. She ended up ninth. Country woman Kira Weidle-Winkelmann (+2.24 seconds) sorted out two places behind.
