Lindsey Buckingham on his “soulmate” Christine McVie

Lindsey Buckingham has paid tribute to former Fleetwood Mac colleague Christine McVie following her death on Wednesday (November 30). The musician passed away after a short illness, although the cause of her death has not yet been publicly announced.

Buckingham on McVie: ‘A friend, soulmate, sister’

In a handwritten note on Instagram, the former lead guitarist wrote: “Christine McVie’s sudden death is deeply heartbreaking. Not only were you and I part of Fleetwood Mac’s magical family, to me Christine was a musical comrade, a friend, a soul mate, a sister. For over four decades, we helped each other create a beautiful body of work and an enduring legacy that lingers to this day. I consider myself very fortunate to have known her. While we will miss her dearly, her spirit will live on through her art.”

Fleetwood Mac members mourn

Buckingham joined Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood in commemorating McVie online with his post. Nicks wrote in memory of her “best friend in the whole world”: “So since Saturday this song has been buzzing around in my head, over and over. I thought maybe I could sing it to her, so I’m singing it to her now. ‘I had a best friend / but she has come to pass / One I wish I could see now / You always remind me / that memories will last.’” She ends her letter with the words “See you on the other side. Do not forget me. Always yours, Stevie.”

Fleetwood reminded fans to appreciate their loved ones in his tribute to McVie, writing, “Part of my heart flew away today…I will miss everything about you Christine McVie (…).”
