Linda de Mol reacts for the first time to the merciless flopping of Briljante Breinen. One thing is certain: she is no shadow of the TV queen she once was. “It wasn’t that big of a success.”
Linda de Mol is lucky that she has such a strong format as Miljoenenjacht in her hands, because after her questionable publicity behavior during the The Voice of Holland riot, she has lost the sympathy of the people. In the past, everything she touched turned to gold, but nowadays Linda is no more than a dime-a-dozen presenter.
Mega flop
Linda was recently on TV with the Brilliant Brains program. Not on its own SBS 6, but on competitor RTL 4. The format is said to be so intelligent that it did not suit the VI channel. Well, what were we looking at in the end? Smart people who had to answer questions about Queen Máxima and Linda’s own Gooische Vrouwen.
RTL Boulevard reporter Aran Bade thinks that Linda can be overjoyed that she can still live on old successes, because this quiz program was a mega flop. “It’s a boost for Linda, because Brilliant Brains, her idea, failed anyway. It dropped to 390,000 viewers linearly,” he says in the show section. “You don’t want that.”
‘Don’t know yet’
Will this program return? Linda responds for the Boulevard camera: “I don’t know that yet. No, I don’t know that yet.”
Gooische Vrouwen colleague Susan Visser: “That would be nice.”
Linda: “Yes, that would be very nice, but yes, the viewing figures were mewoah. Certainly linearly, there was not a very good look, but a lot of looking back was done and the market share is actually very good, which is of course in principle the most important thing for a commercial channel.”
No clarity
Yet Linda fears the worst. “It is also a very expensive program. I would really like it, but I don’t dare say anything about it. There is no clarity about it yet.”
Finally, presenter Luuk Ikink in the studio: “I think the problem with the program was that it was very much in two minds, like: very smart people, but not such very smart questions. That didn’t quite match.”
