Traditionally, the mayor lights the Christmas tree on the Dobbeplas every year. A pleasant moment after which a parade of lights takes place and candle evening starts. Santa Claus, artificial snow and hot chocolate are available.

On Tuesday, December 9, the lighting of the Christmas tree on the Dobbeplas will be switched on at 6 p.m. Mayor Michel Bezuijen then presses the button to switch on the lights in the tree.

Dickens atmosphere

The lights parade starts from the Markt and goes via the Vlamingstraat to the Dorpsstraat, where candle evening starts at 6.30 pm. Shopkeepers decorate the shop windows with lights and there are choirs and Charles Dickens figures to create the Christmas atmosphere. You can buy hot treats such as mulled wine, waffles and oliebollen from the entrepreneurs on the street.

Decorated bicycles and scooters

During the lights parade, children (4-10 years) can ride along on their own decorated go-kart, bicycle or scooter. The light parade runs from the Markt to the Vlamingstraat, in the direction of the square at the Silvester children’s bookstore via the Dorpsstraat. Children can register for the light parade at 6 p.m. at the Market.

Christmas atmosphere at Molen De Hoop

Molen De Hoop opens its doors during candlelight evening. There is a small choir, Santa Claus comes to visit and the hot chocolate is ready. Have you always wanted to see the inside of the mill? During candlelight evening you can enter the top of the mill with a guide.

Candle evening on Tuesday, December 9 in the Dorpsstraat lasts from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
