Ligament injury: RB Leipzig longer without Schlager – Nkunku is also missing

Substituted against Dortmund

RB Leipzig will have to do without two top performers in the near future. The club announced on Saturday that Christopher Nkunku (25) suffered a “small tear in his left thigh” in the 2-1 draw at Borussia Dortmund the day before and will be absent for the time being. Xaver Schlager (25) got it even worse. The Austrian international suffered a syndesmosis ligament injury in his right ankle and will be operated on on Monday.

After Timo Werner, Lukas Klostermann and Konrad Laimer, Schlager is the fourth Leipzig professional to suffer a syndesmosis injury this season. While the trio was a rift, the club did not provide any further information on Schlager’s injury and also did not commit to downtime.

Nkunku was in the starting XI in Dortmund for the first time in 111 days and had to be substituted shortly before the end with muscular problems. Germany’s footballer of the year only recovered from a serious knee injury in mid-February that cost him his participation in the World Cup. With 17 competitive goals so far, he is Leipzig’s top scorer. With Schlager, one of the best and most consistent players in recent months is now missing.
