Lien Wildemeersch on tour with her own performance

The performance is not a biography, but an encounter beyond the boundaries of death, says Wildemeersch about ‘Jackie’. is a search for what connects people. “Her music, her cello sounds are so intensely beautiful to me. I have never been so deeply touched. Not only that, but also as a person she was very surprised in life.”

Tragedy and gift of life

In ‘Jackie’ Lien Wildemeersch meets Jacqueline Du Pré, a British cellist, an exceptional talent with a very intuitive way of playing. But Jackie’s music career comes to an abrupt end when she learns she has MS. She is then 28 years old. “In her figure, both the tragedy and the gift of life come together,” says Wildemeersch. “She actually embodies life. And that is very beautiful and that is only a gift to make a theater performance about it.”

Jackie’ is a production by Theater Malpertuis Tielt. The performance will play in Ghent in the coming days, but will go on tour later, also in West Flanders.
