Liam Gallagher adopted a dog from the animal shelter and raised funds.
Actually known for his rough tone, Liam Gallagher now showed a different side of himself. The Oasis singer won a PETA Award.
Liam Gallagher: Happy dog owner
This was preceded by the adoption of a dog from an animal shelter in Thailand. Liam Gallagher took in the animal, named Buttons, last year after he found her through the British portal “Happy Doggo”. The dog is said to have been left in the jungle by her previous owners because she wasn’t cute enough. The Oasis frontman apparently has a different opinion. Shortly after welcoming his new family member, the musician announced that he would rather stay at home with Buttons than go on tour.
In addition to the adoption, Liam Gallagher set out to raise funds for the animal charity through which he found Buttons. A total of 25,000 pounds (around 30,200 euros) was raised. This was reported by Niall Harbison, founder of “Happy Doggo”, via X (formerly Twitter). Gallagher’s actions “prove that not everything in the world is bad.” The plan is to save 1,000 street dogs a month in collaboration with animal shelters worldwide.
PETA is pleased with a famous positive example
The animal rights organization PETA (People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals) honored Liam Gallagher for his commitment with the “Strike The Right Chord For Animals” award. His decision to get a dog from the animal shelter is said to have inspired his many fans to also adopt an animal instead of turning to breeding. “His compassionate actions are a wonderful example for his fans,” said PETA Vice President Elisa Allen. “PETA is thrilled that he is opening his heart and home to a dog in desperate need of a loving family and encourages everyone to do the same and adopt rather than buy.”
Liam Gallagher commented: “Thank you for the award. Saving Buttons was the best decision we ever made. She brings so much joy to our lives and to the lives of everyone she meets.” Even more pleased, he added, “We are so lucky to have her. We are obsessed. I can only recommend adopting a homeless dog.” The award comes with a letter of thanks and a certificate.
Oasis tour is approaching
Liam Gallagher will soon have to say goodbye to Buttons for a while: the Oasis live reunion announced in the summer will ultimately be accompanied by a tour. Appointments will take place between July and November 2025. It starts in Ireland and Great Britain, followed by Canada, the USA and Mexico, before South Korea and Japan, Australia and South America. Supporting bands include: Richard Ashcroft and cast as well as Cage The Elephant.
