Criticism of fans and apology
The reactions to Gallagher’s post were not long in coming. Many of his followers were disappointed and criticized the musician in a disappointment. One person described him as “racist”, whereupon Gallagher only replied with “behave yourself”. Another fan commented that Gallagher was “canceled today”, to which he reacted with “whatever”.
Shortly afterwards, Gallagher deleted the controversial contribution and published an apology: “I’m sorry if I insulted someone with my tweet. That was not my intention. You know that I all love and nobody discriminates against you. Peace and love.”
The British newspaper “The Independent” reports that the expression used is “widely known as a derogatory imitation of Asian accents and is in particular used to mock people of Chinese origin or those who are perceived as chines: inside.” The term was often used in racist contexts, especially during Corona pandemic.
Not the first allegations of discrimination against Liam Gallagher
Liam Gallagher is known for his polarizing behavior. As early as 2017, he was criticized during a concert in Beijing when he is said to have ridiculed the Chinese audience with a stereotypical accent. Even then, he was accused of disrespect and racism.
The current controversy comes shortly before the planned Reunion tour from Oasis. After a 15 -year break, Liam and Noel Gallagher celebrate their comeback with the stadium tour “Oasis Live ’25”. Initially, 17 concerts in Great Britain and Ireland are planned, including in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin. Further shows in North America, Asia and South America have also been announced. In total, the tour should include 41 appearances.
