RTL Boulevard presenter Lex Uiting, who lives on the canal in Amsterdam’s Jordaan, apparently doesn’t think much of people outside the canal belt. “We demand an apology!”

Arno Kantelberg, the fashion journalist of RTL Boulevard, was quite lyrical in last night’s broadcast about an outfit by the American actress Anne Hathaway. She is completely in leopard print went to some party. “You like this?”, Bridget Maasland remarks in surprise.

Little Purmerend

It does indeed look like Anne is walking around in Patty Brard’s Kruidvat collection, but Arno thinks it’s all wonderful. “Yes, I like that, yes.”

Then Lex Uiting comes around the corner with a somewhat condescending remark. “No, this is a bit Purmerend, isn’t it?”

Bridget surprised: “Oh! Well… Look, I don’t want to be that clear in my opinion, but I didn’t think it was for you to choose this.

Lex: “Oh, sorry.”

‘What’s wrong with it?’

Arno: “No, I like it because she pulls it through like that. Yeah, I don’t know, sometimes you do. And I love Purmerend.”

Lex: “Yes, me too, let’s be clear. Listen: my wife is from Purmerend. I love Purmerend.”

Arno: “What’s wrong with Purmerend? But I mean to say: this is what you do with carnival, right?”

Bridget: “You’re only making it worse. I think you kind of mean that maybe you can also buy it on the market or something, instead of haute couture. So? I help you.”

Lex: “Thanks for this.”

Purmerend boo

Lex’s remark does not go down well with the local news medium Purmerend region. ‘Lex Uiting insults all Purmerenders in RTL Boulevard’, reads the headline. “According to Lex, everyone in Purmerend wears leopard print clothing.”

The news site continues: “Now Uiting still has to say sorry to the Purmerenders because we are of course deeply offended. Very very deep. So Lex, text us. We will make up for it with a new article.”
