He has secured another medal at the international level: Leo Neugebauer. The German decathlete votes to become a world champion.
Tension until the end: Leo Neugebauer is a competition type and has also demonstrated this at the World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. The decathlon of the Olympic Games in Paris last year secured another medal-the 25-year-old won Gold and chose the world champion.
In the shot put, the German athlete set up a season best with 16.70 meters. He also achieved this feat in the pole vault with a skipped height of 5.10 meters. In javelin throwing, Neugebauer even achieved a new personal best with 64.34 meters.
Likewise over the 1,500 meters. In the last discipline, Neugebauer arrived after 4: 31.89 minutes and was completely exhausted afterwards. He was lying on the ground, was even put in a wheelchair and stood out with a gold medal and German flag, but was happy before he lay on the track again and rested. There he always looked at his gold medal.
Neugebauer scored a total of 8,804 points. Silver went to Ayden Owens-Delerme from Puerto Rico (8,784 points). Bronze secured the American Kyle Garland with 8,703 points. Fourth place took Neugebauer’s German teammate Niklas Kaul.
Neugebauer said after his success in the ARD: “I have never felt that bad after the 1,500 meters, but I also went a horny personal best, so I can’t complain.”
He added: “The wheelchair was not necessary. I felt shit, but I got up.” When asked how important he was planning before the last discipline, Neugebauer explained: “I knew exactly what I had to walk and how far he could be before me. So no matter what I had to walk, I did it. I am mega happy.”
