Competitive game comeback is imminent
Lena Oberdorf: “It was hell”

For over a year, Lena Oberdorf had to wait for her first competitive game at FC Bayern. Now it will soon be ready-the DFB star looks back before.
A game that is more for Lena Oberdorf than a season start: On Saturday, the midfield player could be back on the pitch for the first time in over a year – and of all things against her former club.
410 days after their cruciate ligament rupture in the European Championship qualification game against Austria, Oberdorf is to give their competitive comeback for FC Bayern at the Supercup in Karlsruhe (2 p.m.). It would be her first game in the second year of the contract with the Munich club – and that against VfL Wolfsburg for which she had previously played.
In an interview for the membership magazine of FC Bayern, Oberdorf remembered the moment of the injury: she “heard” that it was “bones on bones” – a scene that she described as “already violent”. The diagnosis followed a long time of rehab. “It was hell,” said Oberdorf.
Despite the long break, her sporting importance remained unbroken: Oberdorf came in tenth in the election as a footballer of the year – although she had not completed a single minute of competitive game throughout last season.
A lot has changed away from the square. She started playing guitar, borrowed a DJ desk, started a podcast and got to know life beyond the lawn better. In addition, she is now a dog owner – her bitch Skyla is now part of her everyday life.
Oberdorf is now looking forward. “In training, I notice how impatient I am when the balls don’t come as I am used to,” she said. The injury hardly worries her, as the recent test games against Real Madrid (4: 1) and Olympique Lyon (1: 4) showed.
