Christoph Baumgartner is currently in the strongest form of his life, but he could have left RB Leipzig in the summer. According to Sky, Oliver Glasner wanted to bring the 26-year-old offensive player to Crystal Palace, but the Saxons rejected every offer from the Londoners. During the Bundesliga’s market value update on December 19th, Baumgartner will record an increase in the Leipzig jersey for the first time – perhaps even his new record?
As the pay-TV broadcaster reports, Crystal Palace was prepared to pay 30 million euros for Baumgartner. The Leipzig team blocked the English attempts because Xavi Simons moved to Tottenham for 65 million euros and the Austrian was supposed to close the gap. Under Ole Werner, who took over the coaching position at the Saxons in the summer, Baumgartner is in top form.
In 16 games across all competitions, the Austrian national player scored ten goals and five assists. He almost equaled his best Bundesliga season, when he collected seven goals and seven assists in the TSG Hoffenheim jersey in 2022/23 – Baumgartner was successful six times and shone as a provider five times. Only the Bayern trio Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Díaz have more goal contributions in the Bundesliga.
Since his arrival in Leipzig, Baumgartner’s market value has halved from 24 million to 12 million euros because he was unable to earn a regular place and was involved in no more than eight goals in both seasons. In the Bundesliga update on December 19th, he will be moving up in the Leipzig jersey for the first time. His career high to date is the 24 million euros he earned during his 25.5 million euro move to Leipzig.
“From a problem child under Marco Rose to the linchpin of the Leipzig game as well as a leader in the dressing room who leads the way and is not above anything. A doubling is more than appropriate. His statistics are brutal this year,” says TM user “OMegaFischi”. The market value analysis suggests a value of 21.7 million euros. The update will be made on December 19th (We’ll discuss the new ones now!).
