Patrick Lefevere will therefore step down as CEO of the Soudal Quick.Step cycling team at the end of this month. Lefevere turns 70 on January 6 and informed the entire team – on an internship in Spain – of his decision. Jurgen Foré, who has been running doubles for a year, takes over his duties.
Lefevere: “They always give nice messages around Christmas Day. But I also think that you should not walk away in the middle of the season, that it is a well-chosen moment. The follow-up is ready. The team is almost more than expanded. It has become very large. and perhaps a little too big for just me.”
“I’m turning 70 and I think I’ve done enough. And last night I said in a short speech to people from both teams in a large hall – unfortunately for those who couldn’t be there – that I was going to quit. some, like some employees who have been there for 23 years, shed a tear, it means something to me.”
