The Monegasque fired up on the eve of the first free practice sessions: “Will I follow Hamilton on brake discs? I don’t expect a revolution, but in some particular cases I hope it will be easier to manage.” “Kimi? He’s doing very well, I can see a very mature aspect of him and at the same time I can see that he’s enjoying it”

June 11th – 8.20pm – MONTMELO (SPAIN)

Quickly forgetting the pain of his Monte Carlo, where Charles Leclerc ended his home race weekend in fury with an accident ten laps from the end of the Grand Prix, is an absolute imperative. The Monegasque knows this well and can’t wait to get into the car to leave behind controversies, questions and a lot of bitterness: “I want to close the chapter because Monaco was a very difficult weekend to digest. I’ll only think about getting on track in free practice and starting a new weekend.”

different roads

It will do so with the long-awaited, and discussed, changes to the braking system already announced in Monte Carlo, and translated into the adoption of Carbon Industrie brake discs, a choice that Lewis Hamilton had already made months ago, in Suzuka: “Lewis is right to say that we have taken different paths – confirmed Charles in Barcelona – it was a decision of the whole team to divide the cars, but the last two weekends have been more difficult for me than I had initially expected and now we are going in the direction of Hamilton.” A choice which, however, Leclerc said, should not bring enormous changes: “We will change the configuration a bit and I still have to test everything to understand how much this will actually bring us. I don’t expect a revolution, but in some particular cases I hope it will be easier to manage. Tomorrow I will check the sensations. What I need now, in general, is consistency”.

antonelli flies

The objective declared by Leclerc is to recover quickly together with the team, find the best configuration and then take advantage of the arrival of Aduo to improve the engine and try to quickly get back into the fight for the World Championship: “I believe in it. I will believe in the world title until the end. This year development will play such a crucial role that it is essential that everything works well because things can really change in an instant. We certainly shouldn’t waste too much time, because Antonelli is doing everything perfectly and recovering the points he is accumulating will be a demanding challenge, even if we end up with the fastest car at some point in the season, I won’t give up.” Leclerc then spent words of great admiration on the Italian, currently leader of the championship: “He is doing very well, I can see a very mature aspect of him and at the same time you can see that he is enjoying it, he is without filters, very relaxed, and it is fantastic that he is experiencing such an important moment in his career like this.”
