With two goals in four games, Lea Schüller is involved in Germany’s previous European Championship success. She is already thinking about life after the professional career – and worries.

Unlike many fans, Lea Schüller is not striving for a career in the sports area after the time in professional football. Instead, she decided in 2019 for distance learning in Industry 4.0 at the international university “IU”.

In an interview with the university, she justified that her choice was no coincidence: “Unlike many of my teammates, I decided against studying sports because I wanted to compensate for professional sports.” She also explained: “With this studies, I was broadly positioned after my sporting career.” The idea of the ideas is also said to have been her grandmother, who reminded her of her interest in cars after passing your Abitur. This was the impetus for the teenager to ultimately deal with the job description of the industrial engineer.

According to his own statement, Schüller has not yet committed himself to a firm professional path. And the 27-year-old also seems to be flexible when choosing a course of study. According to “Bild”, she is said to have recently changed her degree and decided on financial management.

Although Schüller is successful as a national player and professional at Bayern Munich and, according to a report on the “BILD”, is reduced by around 180,000 euros, she is concerned about her financial security after the football time. The comparatively late entry into the “normal” everyday work is worried.

“I’m already afraid. If I start at 35, it’s more difficult than at 24,” she said in an interview with Sky in early 2022. “My studies alone does not help me because I have not yet started working. I hope that I can somehow do an internship on the side so that something is in my resume.”

Although she emphasized that she could of course save something – but “it would not be enough for a whole life after football.”

Schüller’s concerns are directly related to the financial situation of many footballers. Because in the Bundesliga only the players of the top clubs can live on their salary.

“I would like our league to be compensated for. That every woman who chooses football in the future opts for football football and does not simply kick besides the 40-hour job as a ‘hobby’ in the Bundesliga,” she told the “Vogue” two years ago. “I think if that would happen, the quality would increase enormously. Then women’s football would be so much better and accordingly the popularity and media presence.”
