The Giulians stop Bertram after three consecutive victories. 17 points each for Ramsey and Brown, Ruzzier and Moretti were also decisive
Trieste wins the recovery of the sixth day of the LBA, postponed due to the home team’s cup commitments and interrupts Tortona’s positive streak. At PalaTrieste it ends 91-81. The reaction of Gonzalez’s men was excellent, after a terrible first quarter, with Moretti and Ruzzier combining for 30 points. Brown and Ramsey were decisive in the final (17 points each). Success of great value for the hosts also because it arrived without Toscano-Anderson and Brooks. 17 points from a good Strautins are not enough for Fioretti.
two faces
—
The start of the match rewarded a Bertram who was significantly more reactive than her opponents, capable of attacking from the arc in transition and forcing many turnovers for the Giulians, thanks to an aggressive defense. Gonzalez’s men, after the shock start (5-17 at 5′), try to shake things up, with baskets from Ramsey and Ruzzier. But Strautins, with a couple of flashes from 6.75 and beyond, widens the gap (11-29 in the 8th minute). In the second quarter, the game script changes radically, with Trieste entering the game, taking advantage of Moretti’s penetrations, Ruzzier and Candussi’s triples and Brown’s talent. It is the former Napoli player who makes the basket that definitively reopens the discussion (27-33 in the 14th minute). Fioretti’s attack, much less fluid than in the first 10′, is entirely in the hands of Gorham, who places two transitions on the glass (33-43 in the 18th minute). The Giulians closed the area better: Tortona found no offensive outlets and above all suffered from the greater intensity of their opponents. A bad turnover by the guests costs Baldasso an unsportsmanlike offense and Moretti scores -2 on the line a few seconds before the long break (41-43).
Trieste energy
—
At the start of the second half, the point-to-point progression of the match continues. Bertram returns to attack in the first seconds of the action, runs in transition and creates good shots even with the defense deployed. Trieste also moves the ball well and responds with Ramsey’s triple and Moretti’s running shot to Vital’s triple (55-54 in the 26th minute). Near the 30th minute, Gonzalez’s men, thanks to great pressure on Fioretti’s ball carriers, found the momentum to go on the counterattack on a couple of occasions. Ruzzier with five points in a row brings the Giulians ahead by one possession (64-61 at 30′). In the first minutes of the final period the hosts have more energy. To the baskets of Baldasso (from 3) and Vital, as they approach, Trieste responds with triples from the usual Ruzzier and Uthoff, and puts two possessions away (72-66 at 33′). Bertram doesn’t give up and reacts with baskets from Vital and Strautins near the rim and 2/2 from Olejniczak on free throws, equalizing at 72 in the 35th minute. Everything is decided in the last minutes. After a winning penetration by Ramsey, Fioretti’s men ate a couple of opportunities to get back to -1, with Gorham and Olejniczak and suffered yet another counterattack from the Giulians: 2 of 2 by Ramsey from the line for 81-76 in the 37th minute. Hubb isn’t as precise with the clock stopped (0/2) and is punished by Brown, who scores a triple to make it 84-76 in the 38th minute. The hosts definitively close the game with Ramsey’s approaching basket and another gem from Brown from 6.75 (89-79 with 50” to go).
