Welmoed Sijtsma is there; Piss off that chip manufacturer Lay’s some of the most popular salts in our country, including Bugles and Doritos, suddenly sells in a cardboard container. “Naaistreek!”

It causes anger throughout the country that Lay’s suddenly puts its popular chips brands in a kind of cardboard box instead of an old -fashioned bag. The price is rising considerably: a kilo of Doritos first cost 10.99 euros and now, in that new box, no less than 18.50 euros. There is much less in it for the same price.

Welmoed angry

Welmoed Sijtsma finds this really very disturbing. “You are used to such a bag of chips and suddenly it is in cardboard boxes,” she complains in her talk show Good evening Netherlands.

She continues: “The creaking sound of a bag of chips evokes nostalgic feelings in people, so people fall over that it is now in a box instead of a bag. It would have to do with the fact that it is more durable, because box is resealable.”

Price increase

There is simply shrinkage, says Welmoed. “This box is more expensive than the bag, but there is a third less in it, so a price increase of 54 percent.”

Talk showgast Ben van der Burg: “Then we say ‘scandalous’ and ‘they sew us an ear’, but on the other hand your pension fund invests in and then you expect that company to make margin and profit, because that is good for your pension fund. It is double.”

‘Hardly sewn’

Co-host Sam Hagens thinks that is a crazy comment. “If I buy chips I am not busy with my pension fund.”

Ben: “Yes, but in our capitalist system it works so that you want that company to make a profit.”

Welmoed: “It is shrinkage. We can laugh about it, but it means that your groceries are getting more and more expensive and you get less for it. People are actually just sewn.”

“We want this”

Studiogast Eppo from Nispen to Sevenaer is shocked by that comment: “That is very rude.”

Ben: “Yes, we all know that, but then we have to look that makes that? We are sewn because on the other hand you demand that they make a profit and make a margin and we are sewn. You can say,” We are sewn “, but on the other hand it makes sense that you are sewn, we want to make a profit.”
