Lawsuit Promes started, former Ajax player not present: “Detention will cost him his job”

The court case against football player Quincy Promes starts today in the court of Amsterdam. The former Ajax player is being prosecuted for attempted murder and aggravated assault. Justice suspects him of stabbing a cousin in the knee with a knife in July 2020. Lawyer Robert Malewicz announced prior to the hearing that Promes – now living in Russia – will not be in court himself.

Quincy Promes will be December 13, 2020 detained on suspicion of involvement in a stabbing. At a family party (July 2020) in Abcoude, Promes is said to have stabbed a cousin in the leg. The footballer denies involvement in the incident. Manon Aalmoes, who was Promes’ lawyer at the time, also reacts shortly after his arrest: “Promes was not on site at the time of the incident”.

Two days later, Promes is released. According to the Public Prosecution Service (OM), there was no reason to detain him any longer at that time. At the end of 2021, the Public Prosecution Service nevertheless decides to release the footballer prosecute for attempted murder of his nephew.

Tapes

Publishes a few months later News hour tapped telephone conversations between Promes and some family members. In the phone calls, he would confess to the stabbing incident: “Why are you jumping for that cousin of yours? You saved his life.” To that, his father who intervened replied, “Quincy, I don’t want you to get in trouble.” And then Promes said: “Otherwise I will stab him to death, you understand that, don’t you?”

Suspicion of drug trafficking

In 2020, when the footballer makes the confession, he will already be tapped in another investigation. Justice then suspects Promes of involvement in drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organization. For example, the former Ajax player would have a fine of 250 thousand euros paid to the Surinamese drug lord Piet Wortel. According to the Public Prosecution Service, he would have paid that fine as compensation for a rip deal of 400 kilos of coke. The investigation in that case is still ongoing.

Malewizc against this week AT5. “If he gets stuck, he can no longer report to his current employer (Spartak Moscow, ed.) And that will cost him his job,” he continues.
