20-year-old discus thrower Mico Lampinen dazzled at the US University Series Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Lampinen set a new record with a result of 61.89 meters. He finished eighth in the competition.
This is the longest Finnish result in 12 years. The last time similar readings were reached in 2014, when Jouni Waldén threw the result 61.95 meters.
Despite the new record, the Finn still saw room for improvement in his own work.
– By the way, it was a good throw, but it got out of hand early. Koutsi (Martin Maric) said after the race that if the puck had not left my hand a little too early, so that I could have pressed it in the middle, it would have been 64 meters on top, he says in the press release of the Finnish Sports Association.
Lampinen’s previous discus record was 60.04 meters from this summer. It is already the sixth time this summer that Lampinen throws the best puck arc of his career. Before the current season, his record was 58.81.
The Finnish discus record is by Frantz Kruger in names 69.97 meters from 2007.
Lampinen will compete next time in Midsummer in Kuortane.
In addition to the puck, Mico Lampinen also knows how to throw the puck. PDO
