French professional footballer Benjamin Mendy wants to sue his former club Manchester City over unpaid salaries. Mendy’s lawyer Nick De Marco KC announced this on Monday.

Two years ago Mendy was accused of, among other things, rape and sexual assault, but was acquitted this year. ManCity suspended the Frenchman and – according to the accusation – also stopped paying his wages. “Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages from September 2021 until the end of his contract in June 2023 after Mr Mendy was charged with various offences, all of which he was later acquitted of.”De Marco told KC, “The lawsuit will go to a labor court.”

Amount in dispute: over nine million pounds

According to British media reports, Mendy is said to have earned around 100,000 pounds (around 114,000 euros) per week at Man City – a total of around nine to ten million pounds.

Mendy was arrested at the end of August 2021. The left-back was investigated for rape and sexual assault in several cases.

Acquitted on all charges

In January 2023 he was acquitted of six charges, and in July of the remaining two. Mendy’s contract in Manchester expired in June and he now plays for French first division club FC Lorient.
