On the last day of the World Championships in Athletics in Eugene, hurdle sprinter Tobi Amusan set the second fabulous world record in the title fights.

The Nigerian stunned in the 100m hurdles semifinals. With a regular tailwind (0.9 m/s), the 24-year-old Olympic fourth placed eight hundredths below the previous record of the American Kendra Harrison from 2016 in 12.12 seconds. “Wow,” tweeted sprint legend Usain Bolt immediately.

Harrison finished second of the race in an equally high-class 12.27 seconds, behind Amusan, who had previously set a personal best of 12.40. The final will take place at 4 a.m. CEST. Amusan had already been a medal contender in the run-up to the World Championships, but the world record still comes as a surprise. “I did what I had to do,” Amusan said.

Previously, Eugene Sydney McLaughlin (USA) improved the world record over 400 m hurdles by 0.73 seconds to 50.68.
