Sports orthopedist Lasse Lempainen operated on two hamstring injuries last week.
AC Milan’s Fullback visited the operating table of a top doctor from Turku Alessandro Florenzi and the Watford striker Rey Manaj.
Both hamstring injuries came in game situations. Of course, Florenz’s injury was reported in a bigger way, because the Italian has been considered one of the best players in Serie A for a long time. Florenzi, who celebrated the Italian championship in Milan last season, injured his hamstring at the end of August against Sassuolo.
The Albanian Manaj moved from FC Barcelona to Watford, the second tier of England, this season.

– After the injuries, MRIs were taken in Milan and London, and they were sent to me. After the palaver, I concluded that surgery was needed.
– Whenever a large, muscular hind thigh is cut, a few technical things must be taken into account. The surgeries were successful, and both felt good about it, Lempainen says.

Work continues
The contact between Lempainen and top athletes does not disappear as soon as the patient leaves the operating table. The Finnish doctor is involved in planning the rehabilitation and will invite the player to Turku again when the return to the field approaches.
– In that test, things like strength, endurance and mobility are measured. It is an important part of the whole concept, because it shows when the return according to the team can happen and if something still needs to be changed.
Ousmane DembéléFC Barcelona’s French star player, visited Lempainen’s operating table in the summer of 2021.
The expensive, but injured winger had not been able to live up to the expectations of the Catalan club. This summer, however, the departure rumors changed to an extension contract.

Dembélé’s early season has been amazing, and he has finally become a key player for the resurgent Barcelona.
– Barcelona just received feedback and praise that the tests we organized have been key for Dembélé. We worked with him for half a year after the surgery. In the tests, there were still things that had to be changed in practice. Those changes have brought results, Lempainen says of the feedback he has received.
He watches football on TV from time to time. He is especially interested in following the reactions of his former patients.
– Of course, it feels like a great show of trust when, for example, AC Milan wants to choose me. I definitely want to cherish cooperation.
Florenz is expected to return to the playing fields in five months, Manaj a little sooner.
