Every day starts early on board: the alarm goes off at five in the morning. For the Mariniers in training, the cadets, that means to get started right away. “We start with an important safety check and measure our heartbeat. If your heart rate is not good, you are not allowed to climb the masts, we are very strict in that ”, says Cadet Marco. Then the physical challenge begins: climbing up to 46 meters high.
After this exercise it is time for breakfast and cleaning, after which the Peruvian national anthem sounds from the deck at eight in the morning. This is followed by the entire day of training. A sleek routine, but one that the cadets are visibly proud of. ‘
“I chose sea shipping because I love the water,” says Cadet Francesco Tragodaro. “I think it’s special to serve my country and travel all over the world. You not only learn a lot about discipline here, but you are also constantly challenged. It is a life full of adrenaline, in which you learn to deal with your fears, such as when climbing in the masts.
