Largest piles of garbage removed from the city center: ‘We turned for an hour’

The garbage collection service in Groningen held a short clean-up campaign on Monday afternoon to remove the worst dirt after the strike.

“We picked up some garbage, only in the city center,” says the co-driver of the garbage truck who takes a break in Hardewikerstraat. On Monday morning there was still a huge mountain of rubbish around the underground containers.

Little hour

“We have cleaned up the worst bumps,” the garbage man clarifies just before the truck drives away. Natascha van ‘t Hooft, spokesperson at City Hall, confirms that the Environmental Service has made a tour of the city centre.

“Wednesday there will be a national action day in Utrecht, which may also be attended by many Groningen employees, which will have consequences for capacity. Then we would only be able to run full power on Tuesday to clean the city, which is why a small round has already been made. Not more than an hour.”
