Largest building in Europe turns off lights to save energy | Abroad

The building will only be lit for another two hours. The lamps are being replaced by more sustainable LED lighting. With this, the parliament hopes to reduce energy costs of more than 1 million leu per month (converted about 203,000 euros). Those costs are comparable to the energy bill of a medium-sized city in Romania. The windows of the building will also be replaced and the walls insulated.

Formerly known as the House of the People, the Romanian Parliament Building was commissioned by the communist leader Nicolae Ceaușescu. The total area is 365,000 square meters.
