Laporta is hoping for Lionel Messi’s return to Barcelona

Laporta hopes

Club president Joan Laporta still hopes for Lionel Messi’s return to FC Barcelona in the future. “I don’t think Messi’s chapter at Barcelona is over. And I think it’s our responsibility that this chapter is still open, that it’s not closed,” Laporta told ESPN. So there could be a better end for Messi at Barça than the previous one.

Messi left Barcelona after more than 20 years in August 2021 for Paris Saint-Germain because the Catalans couldn’t afford to extend his contract. “For Barça he is probably the best player in history, the most efficient, only comparable to Johan Cruyff,” said Laporta. “But it had to happen one day. We had to make a decision.”

The 35-year-old Messi is under contract with PSG until the end of June 2023. According to a report in the Spanish sports newspaper “Marca”, the Parisians want to extend the contract with the Argentinian for another year if possible.
