Lana Del Rey announces country album – find out more about LASSO here

She started working on country music with Luke Laird and Jack Antonoff.

Lana Del Rey announced a country album titled LASSO at a Billboard event on January 31st. At the event, she shared further details about the work, which is scheduled to appear in 2024.

Lana Del Rey continues to venture into the country scene

After Lana Del Rey published a snippet for the song “Henry, come on” on her Instagram account in mid-January 2024, some fans already speculated whether a whole record would soon follow. Now the singer confirms the suspicions with the announcement of her upcoming LP. But there is still one surprise: musically, this time it will be less in the direction of Hollywood sadcore and more in the direction of country. The 38-year-old gave the US “Rolling Stone” a very simple explanation for the reorientation: “The music business is becoming country.”

Although LASSO will be the singer’s first official country album, it isn’t the first time she’s ventured into the genre. In December 2023, Del Rey released his own interpretation of the John Denver classic “Take Me Home, Country Roads”.

LASSO is scheduled to come out in September

For the record she collaborated with country musician and producer Luke Laird. But also producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, with whom they already worked on their sixth studio album NORMAN FUCKING ROCKWELL! made common cause, was involved in LASSO.

While no exact release date has been announced, Del Rey revealed at the event that LASSO is set to release in September. It will be her tenth studio album and follows 2023’s DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BLVD. This earned the singer-songwriter several nominations at the 2024 Grammys. Among other things, best album of the year and best alternative music album.
