Two goals, one sending off, but no winner: Real and Atlético drew in the Primera División. It’s a result that just doesn’t help Real.

Real Madrid saved a 1-1 (0-0) win against Atlético at home in the city derby on Saturday evening (February 25th, 2023) – and that after almost half an hour’s majority.

Coach Diego Simeone’s guests took the lead through José Giménez in the 78th minute. He headed a free-kick from Antoine Griezmann with force and quite undisturbed into the “Royal” goal.

After a red card against Angel Correa because of an assault on Antonio Rüdiger in the 64th minute, it was not seen for a long time that they played with one man more.

Alvaro Rodriguez saves Real at least one point

At least one point was saved by Alvaro Rodriguez, who was only 18 years old, and he also scored with a header to equalize in the 85th minute. For him it was only his second appearance in La Liga, and then directly a goal in the derby.

In the table, Real was only able to catch up one point on the clear leader FC Barcelona. The Catalans are still seven points ahead and can further extend their lead against UD Almeria this Sunday (02/26/2023).

Atlético has 42 points and is fourth in the Champions League.
