The 1. FC Köln is standing ago. The members determine the new board on Saturday, and VfB Stuttgart will come on Sunday.

Lukas Kwasniok could not be lured. When the coach of the 1st FC Köln was asked about the upcoming board election at the matchday press conference on Friday afternoon, he remained as diplomatic as possible. “I have not commented on it in the past three months and I won’t do that now,” said Kwasniok a good 24 hours before the general meeting, in which three teams for the first time vie for power in the club.

Real estate manager Jörn Stobbe, lawyer Jörg Alvermann and sports scientist Ulf Sobek, were proposed by the member council, making it as favorites to the election day. The teams Wilke Strom (entrepreneur), Tugba Tekkal (human rights activist) and Carsten Wettich (lawyer) as well as Sven-Georg Adenauer (politician), Martin Hollweck (master butcher) and Thorsten Kiesewetter (management consultant) have collected the necessary 4600 supporter signatures to be approved. They want to put a strain on the trio of the membership council, which is also supported by the advisory board and the active fan scene.

Kwasniok takes it as it comes. “I cannot influence it and I wish all members a smooth course. I keep my fingers crossed for everyone,” said the coach and left open whether he himself will attend the meeting, which takes place for the first time in the RheinEnergieSadion. “The focus is on the preparation for the game. We will see to what extent we will take part in this general meeting,” said Kwasniok for himself and his team.

Not only Saturday, but also Sunday, should be a trend -setting day for the “billy goats” – in a sportier, not in terms of club policy. After the strong start with seven points from the first three games and a good performance in Leipzig-despite the 1: 3 defeat-the home game against VfB Stuttgart will be a location.

“Yabba Dabba Doo, finally at home,” Kwasniok pressed after two away trips in a row to anticipate his only second home game as a FC coach. As at his premiere in the Rhine Energy Stadium against SC Freiburg (4: 1), a European League team in Müngersdorf is guest with Stuttgart. The 44-year-old warns of “brutal quality”, a “brutal team” and a “top coach”.

The FC, on the other hand, has to do without its top scorer: Marius Bülter, who has scored two goals so far and has prepared two more, fails due to an Achilla tendency irritation. Luca Waldschmidt, on the other hand, who is kinked in training during the week, should be available. Despite Bülter’s failure and Stuttgart’s quality, Kwasniok is optimistic: “We too are not swimming on the soup, we have something on it.” Whoever will form the new board: the team wants to give the chosen trio a victory at the start.
