Eight games without a win

Coach Lukas Kwasniok is bracing himself against the emerging unrest at 1. FC Köln after the eighth winless game in a row. After the 1:3 (1:1) against FC Bayern, Kwasniok vehemently contradicted his professional Jakub Kaminski. After the unfortunate defeat he complained: “Eight games without a win. Of course the mood here isn’t that great right now.”

Kwasniok himself experienced this firsthand in the 2-2 draw in Heidenheim at the weekend. The Ultras had presented a poster critical of the coach that said “Kwasni yok”. The “yok” from Turkish can be translated as “no”. The FC coach, who had experienced a strong start to the season after joining the newly promoted club in the summer, reacted as surprised as he was shocked.

Kwasniok counters Kaminski: “Tomorrow we will smile again”

When asked about Kaminski’s statement, Kwasniok responded vehemently. “The general mood among us is not bad at all. That won’t happen to me. There are much, much harder tasks in life,” said the 44-year-old and added humorously: “Hopefully tomorrow there will be a little smile again, on Friday there will be laughter and hopefully we will win on Saturday.” Then Cologne will play against 16th place in the table. FSV Mainz 05.

If there is the ninth game in a row without a win, the mood could finally change. Despite a 1-0 lead through Linton Maina (41st minute) and a strong performance for a long time, FC did not score against Bayern. Serge Gnabry (45th + 5th), Min-jae Kim (71st) and Lennart Karl (84th) turned the game around for the Munich team, who thus completed the best first half of the season in league history. With 17 points, Cologne are in twelfth place in the table at the halfway point of the season and are five points above the relegation zone.
