Krezip goes to Las Vegas to see ‘their’ Bram shine with U2

“We couldn’t have been more proud.” With these words, the Tilburg band Krezip responds to the debut of their drummer Bram van den Berg with the world-famous Irish rock band U2. A debut he made on Friday, on his birthday, as a substitute for regular drummer Larry Mullen Jr., who will be absent due to medical reasons in the near future. At the end of October they will go to Las Vegas to see Bram (and U2) shine.

In Las Vegas, Van den Berg was introduced to the audience by singer Bono as ‘the only man who could stand in the shoes of Larry Mullen Jr. from U2… uuuh sit’. “Unbelievable,” the other Krezip band members write on social media about ‘their’ Bram’s debut.

The time had come on Friday, on his 41st birthday. Bram van den Berg took a seat on the stool where Larry Mullen Jr. normally sits. When Bono then gave him the microphone to say something to the fans in Las Vegas, he did so in a very modest way. “Make no mistake, there is only one Larry Mullen Jr.,” Van den Berg said and he left it at that.

“That is a very cool Dutch gentleman, right there.”

Whereupon Bono concluded Van den Berg’s introduction with the words: “That is a very cool Dutch gentleman, right there.” Words that Van den Berg almost drowned out at that moment by starting the next song. The drummer had already won over the thousands of fans in Las Vegas. They responded frantically to his words. There was loud applause, cheering and it went well ‘Happy Birthday’ through the hall.

U2 is back on stage for the first time in four years. This in a series of concerts in honor of the opening of a new ultra-modern concert hall in Las Vegas: The Sphere. The performances are themed around the success album Achtung Baby that U2 released in 1991.
