Kremlin after talks with US: peace in Ukraine no closer

Russia and the United States have not reached a compromise on peace in Ukraine, and “peace is neither closer nor further away.” Kremlin official Yuri Ushakov said this after talks that Russian President Vladimir Putin held in Moscow with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.
During the hours-long meeting, an American plan to end the war in Ukraine was discussed. The US made a first step towards this, which has since been refined, partly because of criticism from European countries and Ukraine that the plan yielded too much to the Russians.

Ushakov noted that the sides have failed to reach a compromise on one of the most difficult issues – territorial disputes between Ukraine and Russia. “But there are some American solutions to discuss,” Ushakov said, without naming those solutions.

The American delegation’s plane is already on its way back to Washington, where Witkoff will update the president on the talks, Ushakov said.
